My Character's World
My character’s world is a simple but hard. My character was the campaigner. When I first got the role, I was immediately thinking about why is he doing this job? What is his purpose? Is it that it’s the only job he could find or was it something much bigger than that? I decided that he wanted a big career, that he wanted to climb up the ranks as quickly as possible. His goal was to impress Bobby Brunt. However, this was only so he could get a pay rise, he wasn’t fully invested into what Bobby was saying in their campaign. He saw it as a good job opportunity, he wanted the money and did not really care for much else. Also, while I was looking at his lines in the play, I looked more closely at how I thought he was saying his lines. This is how I developed my character and how I came up with what he would be like in the actual performance. By reading his lines and interpreting them as I thought they were said and crafting the whole character out of it with no name, no background, just his lines in the script. I could see already that it seemed he put on an act for the purpose of getting votes for Bobby Brunt’s campaign, to attract Bobby’s attention, so that he can get more money. The truth is that he doesn’t much care for Bobby or their campaign. Nevertheless, he is an extremely hard worker and does his job to the best of his ability.
