Comparing Christmas Adverts
The two ads I've chosen to compare is the M&S 2021 Christmas Ad and the John Lewis and Waitrose 2019 Christmas Ad. Links below:
John Lewis/ Waitrose 2019 Christmas Ad
The 2019 and
2021 adverts have very different approaches. John Lewis wants to make people
think and be moved by the message they are sending. It is less about showing
off their products and boosting their sales and more about the spirit of Christmas
itself.John Lewis 2019
Meanwhile,
the Marks and Spencer’s Ad is all about the products they sell at Christmas.
They know that food and drinks make up a lot of what people are thinking about
at Christmas and as something that they need to get, put together with some light-hearted
comedy and good shots of the food… BAM they have an ad.M&S 2021
Both of
these adverts were very successful in their own purpose. From John Lewis’
perspective they made an ad that people still talk about to this day and upkept
a tradition of ads that people look forward to every year. Thereby making people
remember John Lewis itself and their revenue was at the highest it’s ever been.
Whereas in 2021 M&S’ revenue dropped 8.4billion British pounds in the UK
and 789.4 million British pound internationally. Arguably yes this wasn’t just
the ad’s fault, but it seems the ad also didn’t help as much as it was supposed
to.
Personally,
I also prefer John Lewis 2019 advert. I prefer that the advert have a greater
message behind it and to move the audience. I will try to put this forward in
my own version of a Christmas Ad.
