John Lewis Christmas Advert 2016 (Buster The Boxer)

The following advert in 2016 by John Lewis, was very different. In this Ad we start with a family and the family’s dog on what is presumably Christmas Eve with the Father putting together a trampoline. Throughout the night many animals use the trampoline and the dog longs to join in and this is what happens the following morning. The dog is very joyful to be finally jumping and the family themselves are confused and yet happy. This ad focuses on seeing others becoming happy and excited for Christmas. The excitement is realised at the end of the ad when the dog jumps on to the trampoline also and the accompanying family members reactions. The ad’s strapline is ‘Gifts that everyone will love’, this shows John Lewis’ understanding that to many their pet is also part of their family. Whilst still being memorable and moving the emotion involved in this particular ad range is more joyful.

John Lewis uses similar techniques in their ads by highlighting emotion and topics at Christmas. Of course, all of the items in the ads are from John Lewis itself, this doesn’t seem to be the message behind their Christmas Adverts. They seem to place more attention on the spirit behind Christmas rather than their products. Whilst they often focus on different aspects you can tell that they are both made by John Lewis due to this.
